Symptoms You Need Your Wisdom Teeth Removed

Posted on 10/15/2018 by Barbara Ketchum
Symptoms You Need Your Wisdom Teeth RemovedWisdom teeth don't serve any purpose and can create problems as we grow into adults. In many cases, the only thing that will come from keeping your wisdom teeth is crowding in the mouth and other issues such as potential infection because wisdom teeth are hard to reach.

These are some of the reasons why we sometimes recommend the extraction of wisdom teeth even when there are no symptoms. An x-ray can show us the position of these teeth before they erupt so we can make a diagnosis. In most instances, wisdom teeth will be removed.

Symptoms for Wisdom Teeth Extraction

The most obvious sign that you need to have your wisdom teeth removed is pain, which can mean the teeth are ready to erupt, but are impacted because they are in the incorrect position and are unable to move to the surface.

In some instances, this can cause intense pain. Anytime you feel pain in your mouth or jaw, you should come and see us as soon as possible because it indicates a problem that needs treatment.

Hopefully, your oral health was monitored closely, and you had x-rays which showed whether your wisdom teeth needed to come out. This is routine nowadays, and most patients will get this surgery, usually in the teen years.

Other symptoms you need your wisdom teeth removed are swollen gums, irritation, jaw pain by the ear or ears, and gum disease in the are where the wisdom teeth are located.

If the wisdom teeth surgery is used as a preventive treatment, you won't have any of these problems. It can be more difficult to treat these molars if they become impacted and, in some cases, we must break down the teeth into pieces so they're easy to remove. Please let us know if you have any pain in your wisdom teeth.
