![]() If you notice that any part of your mouth is sore following a procedure in our office, ibuprofen may be the best answer for relief. What Ibuprofen Does to Ease Your PainIbuprofen is what is commonly called an NSAID, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. This means that it reduces inflammation, which is what hurts in your mouth following things like a root planing or even a filling. You get a little swelling, which leaves you feeling uncomfortable. Ibuprofen is able to take this swelling down and allow you to feel relief.Granted, it is not a safe drug for everyone, so if you are not supposed to take it, make sure we know that. It can lead to stomach upset in some, which is also something to be aware of. However, it is one of the safest pain relievers on the market for many, and one we highly recommend if you notice your mouth feeling uncomfortable when you leave our office. Pain and swelling happens after some dental procedures, even with how gently we do things. Taking a pain reliever can give you a lot of relief, if not take away your discomfort entirely. If you know you are having a bigger procedure done, then take ibuprofen on a schedule for the first 24-48 hours, to keep the swelling down. It is what we would do if the procedure was being done to us, and what we recommend for all of our patients who struggle with dental discomfort. |
