Should You Rinse After Brushing?

Posted on 12/25/2019 by Barbara Ketchum
Should You Rinse After Brushing? One of the most important dental practices is brushing our teeth. When you brush teeth, you are not only making sure that you eliminate any leftover food particles in the mouth, but also you are helping neutralize the acidity levels in the mouth while giving your mouth a dose of some much needed fluoride.

However, most people brush their teeth in a hurry. This means they just go over their teeth quickly, spit out the toothpaste and rinse it immediately and then move on to the next activity. However, that's not the way things should be done.

Rinsing After Brushing

Rinsing your teeth immediately after brushing is not recommended. Today's toothpaste contains a special ingredient called fluoride. Fluoride is a special ingredient that is instrumental to the tooth's health and helps keep it stronger for the longest possible time. Here are a few reasons why you should not rinse after brushing:

Fluoride Washout

One of the biggest reasons not to rinse your teeth after you brush the teeth is that you will be rinsing out the fluoride in your mouth. The period of time we use while brushing our teeth is not enough for the tooth to absorb the fluoride. As such, when you rinse your mouth, it all goes down the drain.

Freshness

One of the reasons we brush our teeth using toothpaste is to get a fresh feeling in your mouth. That's why most toothpaste is flavored; some mint, spearmint and even peppermint. When you don't rinse out the toothpaste, the feeling of freshness will last for longer since the water often dulls out the sensation.

When you brush your teeth, it's important that you take your time and do it well. Make sure that you wash every corner of the mouth keenly and then when you are done, spit out the toothpaste but don't rinse your mouth immediately. You can take some time to let the fluoride staying the mouth, the fluoride will be absorbed by the teeth and make it stronger. After a while, you can then rinse your mouth and get on with your day. That way, you get to draw all the benefits from the toothpaste.
