Partial dentures are an excellent way to restore the smile you are looking for without the need for a surgical procedure to replace a few (or several) missing teeth. And because they coexist with your natural teeth and need to be brushed independently, your brushing sessions will be a little different from a normal one. Fortunately, brushing your natural teeth while wearing dentures is relatively simple, it just takes a bit more hand acrobatics.
Brushing Technique
Partial dentures and teeth are cleaned separately from one another, this is to ensure the dentures get the thorough clean that they need. When trying to brush your teeth while having your dentures in, the focus should be on your natural teeth. Start with the back of your molars and make your way around to the other side getting both the top and bottom teeth, front and back while avoiding the false teeth if possible. There is no harm per se in accidentally touching a false tooth, but they have their own cleaning solutions in which they soak in for a reason- toothpaste can cause scratches to dentures.
Flossing
You'll also want to ensure food and plaque that is caught in between your natural teeth and false teeth are taken care of, this is where flossing after brushing comes into play. Typically, dentures are not flossed since they are thoroughly cleaned on their own. But when flossing your teeth while wearing them, you will floss as you normally would; gently but thoroughly. It should take you about a minute to a minute and a half. Doing this before bed has its benefits, flossing your dentures can make the denture cleaning process easier and you are less likely to miss a spot!
