Why Do Married People Often See Us More Than Singletons?

Posted on 7/26/2021 by Barbara Ketchum
Why Do Married People Often See Us More Than Singletons? There can be a lot of different barriers to regular dental appointments. Regular dental visits are recommended in order to keep your mouth and teeth healthy, as well as to prevent future dental issues from occurring. There is research to suggest that things such as income, marital status, age, ethnicity, and other demographics may affect the chances of receiving regular dental care. While it is important that each individual stay accountable for their dental visits and hygiene, having someone else help with accountability can be a huge benefit.

Marital Status

Research shows that income has one of the largest impacts on regular dental appointments, but marital status is the second largest factor. There is a significant disparity between married, single, and separated individuals when it comes to getting to the dentist. Research shows that 70.9% of married individuals see dentists like us, 60.7% of singles, and only 46.6% of separated individuals. Why is this? There are many reasons that married individuals may stay more accountable for oral health.

One reason is simply each other. Married individuals typical hold each other accountable for their health, if not for themselves. Being married provides an extra level of accountability to keeping visits up to date, as well as keeping oral hygiene regular. There may be psychological reasons that lead to an upkeep in oral health as well. Typically, married folk want to look good for their counterparts. Kissing and being close to one another may be something that happens multiple times a day, and no one wants to kiss an unhealthy mouth.

Regular oral hygiene and dental visits are important for overall oral health. Whether you are single or married, dental issues can create more than just an unattractive smile. Give our office a call if you would like help staying accountable for regular dental visits, or if you have questions about oral hygiene.
