How to Eat Comfortably with Dental Braces

Posted on 7/4/2022 by Barbara Ketchum
How to Eat Comfortably with Dental BracesFor the best outcomes from your new braces, you need to take care of your braces, so they do not break or poke you! It is never fun to have a metal piece of your braces poking your cheek.

Soft Foods

For the first week after getting braces, it is a good idea to stock your fridge with soft meals. You can ease any discomfort you may feel while getting used to your new treatment by switching to a milder diet.

In addition, your orthodontist will adjust your braces every 8 to 10 weeks to keep your smile makeover on schedule. Please be aware that these appointments may cause some soreness.

Do Not Eat Sticky Candy

Certain foods can cause your braces to break. Avoid hard, gummy, chewy candies because they can damage your braces by loosening a bracket or popping a wire out of its place.

Braces-Friendly Fast Food

We understand that you have a hectic schedule and may need to eat on the go from time to time. With braces, you can eat some fast food. During your treatment, it is essential to remember that you should avoid eating hard foods.

Take your Time while Chewing

We encourage that you take your time and be gentle with yourself as you adjust to your braces therapy. Choosing a softer diet will allow you to eat without fear of harming your braces or aggravating your gums, making it easier to eat. There are a lot more foods to pick from once you get acclimated to your new braces and your new bite.

Water with Salt Content

A few days after putting on their new braces, many patients report feeling a little sore. If your mouth is inflamed, we recommend gargling salt water! Rinse your mouth with warm water, then gargle with one teaspoon of sea salt. We want you to be beaming from ear to ear during and after your orthodontic treatment.
