Moderate Sedation Salem ORModerate sedation is also known as conscious sedation. It is stronger than nitrous oxide, which is a mild sedative, but not as strong as deep sedation or general anesthesia. It is designed to keep you awake throughout your procedure, but you are placed in a very relaxed state. It is even possible that you experience temporary amnesia, where you don’t remember parts, or even any, of your procedure. There are a couple of different types of moderate sedation, including oral sedation (taking a medication by mouth) and IV sedation (the medication is delivered directly into your bloodstream). No matter what type of moderate sedation you use, it is essential that you have someone with you who can drive you home. The effects of moderate sedation take some time to wear off following your procedure (often as long as several hours). During this time, you should not be operating a vehicle or any other type of heavy machinery. Moderate sedation is often an excellent option for just about anyone experiencing dental fear or anxiety. |
